when yesterday feels like today
Today’s story takes me back to my childhood, to moments that now feel both distant and precious. I hope it brings back some memories for you, too.
A Walk Down Memory Lane
Today, I found myself reminiscing about my childhood. This has become quite a habit, but, anyways, I was reminded of those early years when I was learning how to read and write.
My aunt (my mom's youngest sibling) was living with my family at that time, and she had the responsibility of helping my sister and I with our homework after school.
An experience we both dreaded 😂
She was always so strict about us getting the right spelling and pronunciations. Back then, I used to hate having to read a comprehension passage from my English textbook over and over again, and I especially hated the mandatory supervised naps (yep, she stood beside the bed until we fell asleep…fr 😂) we had to take after each grueling study session.
The Little Lessons
Looking back, I'm immensely grateful for those moments. Not only did she spark my love for the English language, but she also helped me discover my passion for stories and my talent for storytelling.
A Full Circle Moment
Well, that aunty had a baby girl.
And I got to meet my little niece for the first time last Tuesday. My heart was bursting with so much emotion, but the most intense feeling was awe. For a brief moment, I couldn't believe that I was holding my aunt's child in my hands.
2008 felt like yesterday.
It’s crazy how time moves so fast. Life has this way of catching us off guard. One moment, I was the little girl needing help with spelling words, and now here I am, holding a new generation in my arms, feeling grateful for all those small but meaningful moments that shaped me.
Do you ever look back at the little moments that shaped you?
With gratitude for the memories,
Ruth ❤️
